DIY Grain Spawn Kit

Two 3.5lb. bags of hydrated, sterilized organic rye grain in injection-port spawn bags, ready to inoculate with the mushroom culture of your choice.

Grain spawn is probably the most widely-used, consistent and effective starting point for mushroom cultivation projects. One bag of spawn can inoculate 10 times its weight of bulk substrates such as straw, sawdust and wood chips. It can also be used as a spawn "master" to first inoculate more sterilized grain, then substrate, resulting in a 10,000% increase in biomass!

These specialized injection-port spawn bags make it easy to inoculate your grain with a liquid culture syringe. The 0.2 micron sir filter keeps it sterile while it incubates. Once the mycelium has a running start in sterile conditions, mature grain spawn is naturally resistant to contamination and can be handled directly for spawning bulk substrates like sawdust, wood chips, dowels, and straw.

Rye is a favorite of the cereal grains. Its dense structure and high nutritional content supports the luxuriant growth of most desireabe mushroom species. USDA certified organic grain, grown in Oregon.
